About Us
Save Davidson's mission is to preserve Davidson's small-town quality of life by educating and engaging citizens in Town governance, community advocacy, and activism.
Past
Save Davidson began February 2017 as a Facebook group called ‘Save West Davidson's Tree Canopy.’ The grassroots group was centered around informing Davidson residents of the sale and private development of Town-owned Beaty Street Property located at Beaty/NC115, the loss of its tree canopy, and the Town’s failure to follow proper procedure around sale of Town-owned land.
Present
Through a combination of online conversations and in-person events, the group’s following quickly expanded and a budding cross-town movement focusing on a multitude of town issues was emerging. In June 2017, the expanded support and growing range of issues prompted the founders to change the group’s name to simply ’Save Davidson.’ After that, the open conversation style among roughly 3,000 supporters fostered unprecedented connectivity among citizens from across the Lake Norman region.
Future
In October 2017, Save Davidson organized as a North Carolina nonprofit corporation. The organization will remain a grassroots group whose chief objectives are engaging, educating, advocating for, and activating citizens on issues that matter to them through social media, special events, and personal interactions and platforms to amplify individual citizen voices.
