The future can look very bright.

In my 20+ years of working in local politics, I’ve learned a few things about Town Boards. If I may,I’d like to share a few.
Town boards go toxic when they begin to see the other commissioners as their peers – and NOT the voters or citizens.
A “unanimous” board is even more destructive to a town than a fractured one. Why? They trade favors and make plans to benefit each other – first.
The turmoil and challenge to the established board in Davidson is healthy, and needed.
Boards need a balance of personalities. A blend of independent-thinker, “wise-leaders” and people who can work with both types of candidates often function well. Avoid those who cannot compromise and those who can be emotionally or financially manipulated. A “soccer mom” or retired citizen with common sense and a strong spine is often waaay better than a businessman or developer with s hidden personal or financial agenda.
The choices are not just about the person, but the team.
Thanks for letting me share – the future can look very bright.
